Other overtrousers included here are designed to be pulled over legwear when the weather turns wet. However, the Cascada’s Nikwax Analogy fabric is comfortable enough to wear all day, so there’s no need to stop and change into or out of them as the weather alters, they’re heavy, at almost 600g, but then you don’t need to wear regular trousers beneath them and they won’t sit redundantly in your pack.
The waterproof fabric mimics the way animal fur repels water, keeping you dry from both rain and sweat at the same time. It’s exceptionally breathable, though the trousers also feature thigh-length zips for venting and to allow them to be pulled over boots. You might be caught out by bad weather when wearing shorts, though these trousers are unlikely to be the sort you’d carry just in case. The legs are articulated to allow great freedom of movement, ideal for scrambling or simply scaling stiles. The elasticated waist has a drawcord for adjustment, and the ankles feature poppers to seal them around your boots.
