Using Paramo In The Continent Where It Is MadeIn February 2007 my wife and I had a walking and touring holiday in Patagonia. Despite the fact that it was their summer, we experienced some extremely windy weather and out of the sun it was also cold. For those who know that remote part of the world, we walked in the Fitz Roy massif in Argentina and in the Torres del Paine Park in Chile and then in Tierra del Fuego - as far south as you can get in the world apart from Antarctica. These mountainous areas with the previously mentioned strong winds were ideal locations in which to test our newly acquired Paramo clothing and it passed with flying colours. We both used long sleeved Cambia shirts as base layers and found them extremely comfortable and of course easy to wash and dry. My wife wore a taiga Fleece which she thinks is one of the most comfortable garments of its kind she has worn and when necessary a Fuera Jacket on top to be completely weatherproof. I relied on the windproof qualities of my Cascada jacket with a light sweatshirt underneath when it was really cold, eg. When we did a glacier walk. It was the combination of light weight, comfort and weatherproofing which really impressed us. We bought all of our Paramo clothing at Whalley Warm and Dry where we were also very pleased with the help and advice we were given. |
