This 2-3 season classic English hiking boot is designed for lower level Lakeland & Scottish fells.
Volume and width of the Altberg Keld last is much higher than average, especially around the forefoot. The footshape is asymmetric and the heel is a medium size, to keep heel support good and snug. There is reduced sideways pressure on the large toe, and a wider forefoot with slightly above medium volume.

These are easily the most comfortable walking boots I have ever owned, and that’s right out of the box. I have a wider foot and the last seems to fit it perfectly. More so than a conventional last in a wide fitting.

The boot fitting appointment was fantastic, I spent over an hour getting correctly fitted, including some minor stretching of the boot. Boots are of an excellent quality, I wore them to climb the Merrick in SW Scotland 3 days after purchasing, the going was very wet, uneven surfaces and strenuous. The boots kept me supported and dry, not a single blister or sore point after around 5 hours of hiking, absolutely great boots and service from Whalley warm & dry.

I bought these boots in August 2020 and thought I’d review after giving them a good testing. Aggie was brilliant at measuring and fitting and I can’t recommend that service highly enough. I walk about fifty miles a week on Lakeland fells and I’ve never had a moment of discomfort in them. They are stable, supportive, comfy and stay dry. I have the widest feet and biggest bunions ever seen which goes to show that correctly fitted boots mean there are no limits to walking enjoyment. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this service and these boots.

I had a comprehensive boot fitting and advice from Stuart at Whalley W&D recently. He discussed what type of walking I generally do, indepth measurements with volume calculations and a digital analysis of my feet were taken. After which Stuart offered a couple of pairs of boots to try. The most comfortable being the wide fitting Altberg Keld. Also included in the service was steam adjustment of each boot to make the pair truly “fitted”. I also chose an insole to support my low arch. The boot fitting appointment took over an hour & half, and was time well spent. The fitting and adjustment service is complimentary & covered every aspect of walking & how your feet move under weight and motion. These boots are as comfortable after a couple walks as my old pair were after 25 years. Stuart is a credit to the store and made both myself & my wife feel at ease. He had a great deal of knowledge which he shared in a friendly and polite manner. I am so glad I chose to go to Whalley Warm & Dry.
