The upper design is ‘Alpine Style’, which incorporates a seamless bellows tongue, in the one-piece leather upper. The water repellency is ‘backed up’ by a Sympatex® waterproof lining, of bootee construction. The underfoot support and protection is provided by the midsole, level 3 season, which gives excellent flex and torsional resistance and is suitable for rough terrain.
The Altberg Tethera also benefits from above ankle support which provides extra support for rough terrain.

I wore out perfectly respectable manufacturer’s boots every 18 months for years. Seven years ago I bought a pair of Altberg Tethera boots. These were resoled three years ago and still remain waterproof with daily use in Scotland’s southern uplands.

This is really a review of both Altberg and Whalley Warm and Dry. I had an appointment at WWD for boot fitting, cancelled by lockdown and on my next trip N, called at the Altberg factory where they fitted my but did not have my size. So a quick call while driving on S and WWD had my boots packed up and in the post. Really helpful on the phone and boots arrived in a flash. Fit perfect!
I have only tested them around the village (Hampshire), but they seem really comfortable after my 20+ yr old Meindles. The test will come in 2 weeks, walking the West Highland Way, but I have no doubts.
So, boots superb. WW&D and Altberg both really helpful!

I’ve had these for a few years now and teach outdoor pursuits in them. They are absolutely superb and I cannot fault the fit and all day comfort. Neither can I fault the service from WWD, I cant wait for them to open again as I am after a lightweight pair of boots for the summer.

Just bought my second pair to replace a pair approximately 6 year’s old. They have been re-soled once, but now let in a bit of damp and the leather is beginnings to split in places. These ‘xn’ boots have been the most comfortable and longest lasting boots I’ve ever used. Expensive, but well worth the initial outlay.

I have troublesome awkward feet and have bunions not a great combination. This shop sorted out the issue with these boots, made to measure, great service, been back loads for clothing, fantastic service. Now the boots. I have had the boots for approx 6 months and If i could marry these boots i would, so comfortable no matter what the terrain. I have hiked in the worst weather and in bog fests and not once have i had wet feet. Fully recommend the boots and the shop.

Superb boots which have remained fully waterproof, even after about 8 years use. I have full confidence in them, no matter the conditions. Always comfortable, although a little heavy. Even after the re-sole they came back as good as new. Will definately replace with the same when the time comes.
