Having walked these in, I wore them on a week’s trecking in the Madonie National Park in Sicily, covering farm tracks, high pasture and dense woodland, some of the paths consisting of loose rock, on which its is easy to slip. The boots were the equal to these challenges, remaining comfortable in descent as well as ascent (descending often being more difficult), and providing good support. The extra width means the boot doesn’t feel tight, while the toe ensures that toes are protected during descents (and don’t have space to rub).
I appreciated the advice I received from Whalley before purchasing online, and I am very happy with the outcome.

I embarked on a mission to find the perfect walking boots and was led to Whalley Warm & Dry. The experience was outstanding, highlighted by impeccable service and expert advice. After sending in foot scans, Alex recommended the MEINDL Sarn GTX size 9 1/2 with a custom stretch! The fit was perfect, offering room to wiggle my toes while ensuring snugness everywhere else, even when laced tightly.
The boots, delivered within days, are surprisingly light and promise unmatched comfort. Whalley Warm & Dry’s process, from analyzing my foot scans to the boots’ swift arrival, showcased their dedication to customer satisfaction and detail.
Although they haven’t yet faced the great outdoors, I’m eager to test them on my upcoming Everest Base Camp trek. For anyone seeking quality outdoor footwear and stellar service, Whalley Warm & Dry is unparalleled.
First test shall be a walk around Petworth Park tomorrow weather permitting and I expect them to suit my extra extra wide feet very very well!!
Thanks to Whalley Warm & Dry and Alex, I’m ready for adventure with boots that feel tailor-made for my feet.
PS. The £7.50 credit I have with you, consider that a tip!

I was desperate – a Mighty Hike (of Marathon distance) was looming, and I was suffering with serious blisters. Friends strongly recommended Whalley W&D, so an urgent appointment was booked. Dave gave my feet a through measurement and took account of all my issues, which included a couple of arthritic toes as well as metatarsalgia. Of the two boot makes recommended, the Meindl Sarn GTX boots (with Sodas high insoles) were immediately comfortable and duly purchased.
A short test walk the following day – a 7km loop near Keswick – went without incident.
And so the boots were put to the Might test – 42 km around Ullswater… Dreadful weather (mid-summer??), but great camaraderie amongst the hundreds of Macmillan Mighty Hikers – and not a single blister! Amazing result.
Huge thanks to Dave – the Meindl boots saved the day. I’m sure they’ll be my best friends for many years too.

Early days on the Meindl boots but very comfortable after three shortish walks. The Whaley folks were very helpful.
